Re: Linux TSM Server

Last week, Sun moved to thwart takeovers by both Linux and NT
as a server platform by announcing that Solaris 8 for both Sparc
and Intel would be free for the cost of media. Their web site has
details. They claim that they are changing their business model
to charge for services, support, custom engineering, and consulting,
rather than to charge for software licensing of the operating system.
TSM for Solaris currently runs only on Sparc. Has TSM
engineering looked into the possibility of getting the product
to run on Solaris on Intel hardware? Then customers would have
TSM available on a true commodity hardware/software platform
pair. It seems to me that 1) this might be a simpler engineering
effort, and 2) it renders "TSM on Linux" a non-issue.
