What you want to do in Sybase is "dump database." The database does not
have to be shut down nor do all users have to be out. However, we have our
dumps scheduled using Unix cron to backup after hours.

A sybase dump is like a disk image of the entire database. This is what
ADSM should be backing up.

Can ADSM backup a Sybase Database?

When yes, how can I implement the database backup (is the only way to shut
down the database, before I backup it)?

When not, with which software can I do this?

Thanks

Michael
