Jialin,
Something to compare with.... We backup 2 NT machines. Each has approx
1.5 million files. They each move about 40GB of changed data daily. Runs in
roughly 9 hours. 100mb NIC connection, 4*200 PII processors, 1 GB memory.
Server is RS/6000 J40.
At the same time we also backup both Solaris and AIX machines that
have 3-4 million files, 4-8GB changed data daily each. They run in 3-4
hours.
We did find that stopping Anti-Virus during backup on the NT side
gains us about 5 hours. With it on we were hitting 13-14 hours. We are
running McAfee.

Subject: Takes 11 Hours to backup One Machine
I have an ADSM performance question. It takes more than 11
hours for ADSM
to backup one of our big NT file/printer server. There are
about 4 millions
objects on this server. One filespace has 60 GB data and it
takes 2 hours to
backup. The another filespace has 125 GB data and it takes
9 hours to
backup. Everyday normally only 2-3 GB data are transferred
and backed up.
Look like the most of time are spent on file comparing. I'd
like to know if
it is normal for ADSM backup. I also have a local DLT tape
drive running
incremental backup using BackupExec. It only takes 3 hours.
The following
is a summary of performance data. ADSM server version is
3.1.2.40 and
client is 3.1.0.7.
