That's what you need to do. Make sure you stop and restart dsmc after
changing the options file. This includes the scheduler daemon you may have
started.
If you use exclude /usr/.../* then the files will be excluded. However, TSM
will still backup the directory information. To exclude that use:
exclude.dir /usr
