I pick up similar messages all the time when testing a component and I dump
the server. For the cynical: yes, I intended to and intentially abended
the server... :-) Not that my co-workers always believe me either ;-)
In any case, it's likely you're losing your communications channel with the
server. My guess is that NT has already shut down that service / protocol
(TCP/IP in this case) and the ADSM client can't "get out" of your box to
send the messages it needs to the server.
To resolve the problem, find out why your NT boxes are trying to shutdown
while your ADSM Client is still up and running.

I have a number of clients that are as follows:
NT 3.51 (SP5) running v3.1.0.5
On a number of occasions they appear to shut themselves down in a
controlled
manner (i.e. there is a 'Shutdown Computer' GUI box on the screen with the
Restart button).
The example below is taken from a typical scenario, but it does not always
happen during backup.
