Dann,

I wouldn't base the tape drive on AIX, but on your backup needs.

Saying that, we use a L32-3575. With 6 tapes and 3 SCSI cards things work well.
The only thing I don't like is the low capacity of the 5GB drives (model C).
Compression is about 2:1 (again depends on your data). If you buy a 3575 get
the Model C XL drives (7 GB), also, as many tapes drives as you can afford -
this really helps during reclamation and creating copy/offsite storage pools.

Hello,
We are currently using ADSM Server (v3.2.40) on OS/390 (v1.3) to backup
several Novell Netware servers and several AIX RS/6000s. We average about 1.5
gb per hour transfer rate and we are thinking about moving the ADSM server off
of OS/390 to AIX. Right now we are using 3490 tape cartridges for our
backups(channel attached to OS/390). Does anyone have any reccomendations as to
what type of tape drives would be best to use if we go to an AIX Server?

Thanks for any help you can give,
Fred Dann
