Hi Stephen

You dsm.opt syntax is ok but you do NOT need to specify

EXClude *:\...\*.*

Check the grammar, you only need EXClude *:\...\*

To see what happens on the client, just try :

DOS > dsmc q inclexcl

Mode Function Pattern (match from top down)
---- --------- -----------------------------
Excl Directory D:\DISTRIB
Excl Directory D:\DISTRIB
Excl Directory #\...\ADSM\LOG
Excl All C:\WINNT\PROFILES\...\*
Excl All C:\WINNT\MEMORY.DMP
Excl All #\...\SPOOL\...\*
Excl All #\...\RECYCLER\...\*
Excl All #\...\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\...\*
Excl All #\...\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\*.*
Excl All #\...\PAGEFILE.SYS
Excl All #\...\EA DATA. SF
Excl All C:\TEMP\CACHE.IE\...\*
Excl All C:\TEMP\CACHE\...\*

Subject: NT client backup storing complete directory structure

Server: OS/390 2.6 - ADSM 3.1.2.40
Client: NT 4.0 SP4 - ADSM 3.1 (IP21618)

Following options set:

DOMain D: E:
EXClude *:\...\*.*
INClude D:\DATA\...\*.*
INClude E:\DATA\...\*.*

With the above options set, ADSM still backs up the entire directory
structure of all local drives when
a scheduled backup runs. I do not want all of the other directories
filling
up my data base. If a user
selects his node in the gui client and runs a backup, ADSM again backs up
the entire local directory
structure then it proceeds to backup all network directories the user has
access to. Is there anything
I can do to force ADSM to only backup the directories needed for the files
selected for backup?

Thanks
