Thanks for the note ...
What I was minding was putting quotes on parameters as I called the macro.
Wanda suggested putting the instructions into a file and defining it as a
server script; that happily reads in the '$1' without griping or doing a
literal substitution (at call) and getting the search right : not searching
for (e.g) stg=$1 rather than stg=backuppool.
So I'm going with that ... all help appreciated!
