Now the drives are back on line(Thanks Adam, Mary, and Don). I had 2 tapes for
db backup. These 2 tapes were switched during the full db backup each time.
When the 2 drives went off line, one of the 2 tapes was showing
status=Scratch and Last Use=none(left blank). It had status=Private and Last
Use=DbBackup before the problem. As Adam mentioned, could this be because the
tape went bad when it was in the drive? And I lost whatever was in the tape?
Now,after bringing the drives back on line, It backed up the db on to the
Scratch tape and changed the status back to 'Private' and Last Use to
'DbBackup'. Do you see any potential problem here?

As Nathan pointed out, I also want to update the server to 3.1.2.40. Could any
one tell me the location where the update images can be ftp'ed from.

Thanks for your help.

Logan.

Hi there,

To get your drives back online, issue the two following commands at the adsm
prompt.

UPDATE DRIVE TAPELIBRARY1 TAPEDRIVE1 ONLINE=YES
UPDATE DRIVE TAPELIBRARY1 TAPEDRIVE2 ONLINE=YES

You probably will want to also check the AIX errpt as well as the ADSM
activity
log around the time the drives became offline to find out why. I've had
drives
go offline on me before for things such as a tape going bad while in the
drive.
Hope this helps!
