Upgrade AIT -1 to AIT-2

I have an ADIC Scalar 1000 with 4 AIT1 drives.  I need to add at least 4
new drives.  I would like to replace my current 4 AIT1 drives for a
total of 8 AIT2 Drives.  What is the tape compatabilty between AIT1 and
AIT2?  Can I run 4 AIT 1 and 4 AIT2 drives in the same library accessing
the same tapes?

What are my options, and has anybody done this before?
