I noticed there was some discussion about using FDR/Upstream as a
replacement for ADSM in years past, and from what I've read, it hasn't
generally been favored over ADSM (not surprising, since this is the ADSM
list)
We are looking at having both ADSM and FDR/Upstream in house, Upstream for
our EMC Dasd, and ADSM for our
remaining clients (NT, 95, Novell, AIX, OS/390 USS, and Domino on S/390)
I've been asked to see if we couldn't just use one tool. Given that ADSM
doesn't apparently compete favorably with FDR in the EMC DASD world for
LAN-free data transfer, I must consider whether FDR/Upstream can pull it's
own against ADSM in
our existing environment (with the above clients mentioned, and the server
running on OS/390)
If it can, there's then the question of whether the pain of conversion is
worth the benefit of having one backup system instead of two.. but that's
really not what I'm asking here.
Has anyone done a comparison of these products in their more current states
(starting in 1999)?
Thank you for any opinions/experiences!
Julie
