My understanding is that there are known issues with .40, specifically
relating to expiration hanging.  Whether or not this could be related to
your freeze, I don't know, however I'd be cautious to run code with known
freezing issues.  I've had more than one client encounter problems with .40,
and in each case moving to .42 solved their problem...
