Nick,

I can speak in the "Open Systems" arena but can't touch the mainframe or
AS/400 TSM prices. As a general rule of thump NT TSM servers are a little
more than half the cost of a UNIX TSM server. Tivoli is pricing the NT
solutions very competitively with other competitive offerings when it comes
to the commodity NT server space. The UNIX TSM servers are higher not only
with *SM but also with other competitive offerings due to the fact that a
shop that can afford a UNIX server and UNIX systems administrators can also
afford a more high priced product. From what I have seen all the TSM UNIX
servers are all priced the same from Sun, HP, or AIX.

If you are planning on pushing a lot of data - I would recommend a UNIX TSM
solution. The NT TSM server is definately a great product, but if you plan
on backing up terabytes of data - go with the more costly, but more robust
UNIX TSM solution.
