Hi Cindy,

The answer to your question is that the excludes should
be working, assuming that everything is configured correctly.

Some questions:

1) What does the dsm.opt file look like?

2) Are you sure that the dsm.opt file you think TSM is using is
   really being used? Try running

   dsmcutil query /name:"yourschedulername"

and see what it shows for the options file.

3) If you attempt to manually back up the
C:\WINNT\Profiles directory, do you see these
   errors, i.e. try running:

   dsmc i c:\winnt\profiles\ -su=y

"The only dumb question is the one that goes unasked."

I still question why, if EXCLUDED specifically in the DSM.OPT file, TSM is
trying to back up these files anyway. The machine has been booted multiple
times, and the scheduler refreshed as often as needed according to
activity.
Still the files are there in the error log as having failed upon backup
attempt. I know some of my more vocal users/system administrators are going
to have severe anxiety attacks when they see stuff like this in their error
logs.

I had originally thought this may be due to having NT SP4 on this machine
along with the new TSM level, but I don't think that's really an issue
here.
Any other ideas out there?

Thanks again!

Cindy
