I was thinking of going back to 3.1.2.20. Do you know if the DB structure
changed from 3.1.2.20 to 3.1.2.40?

Ed,

Not always, it depends on the version you want to go back to.  Some
new versions of *SM (PTFs) change the DB structure so that a prior
version will not be compatible in reading the newer version.

What version do you want to go back to?
