** High Priority **

Before anyone says use DRM - we can't. I really don't need to debate this & it
wasn't my decision not to buy the module license.

Problem is that we normally run 2, twin drive 3570 tape libraries. I have to
restore on a 3575 library from the offsite tapes.
We have the latest full database backup tape from volhist.lst

The 'dsmserv restore db todate=mm/dd/yyyy' command doesn't run successfully
because it says it is having problems defining the library and drive hardware.
Unfortunately I haven't got the exact error output, but it skips the
devconfig.lst drive definition(s).

So I've included part of the normal devconfig.lst : -

D.R. (offsite) tape copies run in 3570lib2. What bits need to change?

I've tried removing all 3570lib1 references and changing the slot number for
the database backup tape to the correct one (checked with tapeutil) in the
3575. Tape drive address (16) has been set from 3575 documentation and device
/dev/rmt0 is an IBM Magstar MP Tape Subsystem.

So we started with this:-
/* IBM AdStar Distributed Storage Manager Device Configuration */
DEFINE DEVCLASS 3570CLASS1 DEVTYPE=3570 FORMAT=DRIVE MOUNTLIMIT=2 MOUNTWAIT=120
MOUNTRETENTION=10 PREFIX=TB LIBRARY=3570LIB1
DEFINE DEVCLASS 3570CLASS2 DEVTYPE=3570 FORMAT=DRIVE MOUNTLIMIT=2 MOUNTWAIT=120
MOUNTRETENTION=10 PREFIX=TB LIBRARY=3570LIB2
DEFINE LIBRARY 3570LIB1 LIBTYPE=SCSI DEVICE=/dev/rmt2.smc
DEFINE LIBRARY 3570LIB2 LIBTYPE=SCSI DEVICE=/dev/rmt4.smc
DEFINE DRIVE 3570LIB1 DRIVE2 DEVICE=/dev/rmt2 ELEMENT=16
DEFINE DRIVE 3570LIB1 DRIVE3 DEVICE=/dev/rmt3 ELEMENT=17
DEFINE DRIVE 3570LIB2 DRIVE4 DEVICE=/dev/rmt4 ELEMENT=16
DEFINE DRIVE 3570LIB2 DRIVE5 DEVICE=/dev/rmt5 ELEMENT=17
/* LIBRARYINVENTORY SCSI 3570LIB1 TB0006 44 101*/
/* LIBRARYINVENTORY SCSI 3570LIB1 TB0014 36 101*/
/* LIBRARYINVENTORY SCSI 3570LIB1 TB0015 35 101*/
/* LIBRARYINVENTORY SCSI 3570LIB1 TB0016 34 101*/
/* LIBRARYINVENTORY SCSI 3570LIB1 TB0017 32 101*/

And got to this:-

/* IBM AdStar Distributed Storage Manager Device Configuration */
DEFINE DEVCLASS 3570CLASS2 DEVTYPE=3570 FORMAT=DRIVE MOUNTLIMIT=1 MOUNTWAIT=120
MOUNTRETENTION=10 PREFIX=TB LIBRARY=3570LIB2
DEFINE LIBRARY 3570LIB2 LIBTYPE=SCSI DEVICE=/dev/rmt0.smc
DEFINE DRIVE 3570LIB2 DRIVE0 DEVICE=/dev/rmt0 ELEMENT=16
/* LIBRARYINVENTORY SCSI 3570LIB1 TB0006 93 101*/

And Got NOWHERE !!!!

Fortunately this is only a test, but apart from whining about our D.R. contract
hardware supply, how can we fix it??? I have less than 48 hours now...

Regards

Alex Masters.

P.S. Atape level is 4.2.1.0 - this seems to work with the 3575 OK.
