Never less than two drives.  A single drive, while it will work, is a pain
in the neck.

DLT: great capacity, reasonable speed, slow time to access, moderatly
priced.
AIT: great capacity, great speed, good to great time to access, great price.
3570: lousy capacity (sorry, I call 'em as I see 'em), great speed, great
time to access, moderately expensive.
3590: lousy capacity, great speed, good to great time to access, expensive.

I'm strong on AIT.  Great all around product with tons of library support in
the marketplace.
