All,

I am attempting to perform a bare-metal restore of a Windows 98 PC.
I have never done this on Windows 9x so I looked on the ADSM-L
archives and found this method in a previous post:

I installed 98 into c:\wintemp, got it up on the network, and then
restored all data to the C: partition using a replace=all. Every-
thing restored fine. I turned the power off without properly
shutting down and then restarted the system.

The machine came up okay but instead of booting from the c:\windows
directory as understood it would, it booted off the c:\wintemp
directory. When I brought up a DOS-Prompt I saw that the environment
variables were all still pointing to c:\wintemp.

How do I get a Windows 98 PC to boot off of a different system
directory? On NT all you have to do really is to change the boot.ini
file. Do you have to do anything special with the registry like
moving it as you do in NT? I looked in the "Client Disaster Recovery
Bare Metal Restore Redbook" but didn't find anything good in there for
98.
