Maybe this helps:
Copying large files to (or from) the diskpool has a much larger ADSM
server/database activity overhead then backing up large files directly to
tape. I have configured my diskpool with a maximum file size to re-direct
large files to the tapepool.

Whether sending large files to tape is actually faster, depends on the
speed of the tape device, but it might ease some of the workload from the
ADSM server and database.
