Thomas,

Never needed to set up any environment variable, because ADSM is always
binded to the directory where you start it. In my rc.adsmserv (or any
startup script) just need to cd and be sure that my dsmserv.opt is there.

Linking GIF and CLASS files was needed, so both the servers could be managed
from WWW.

I didn4t understand how the variables can provide multiple and different
instances on the same server. Everytime you start a new and different server
you change the value of the DSMSERV_CONFIG variable to point to another
DSMSERV.OPT file ?

I think changing directories is easier. For every new ADSM server on the
box, just add another directory and everything will work fine.

But, once again, back to the first issue, 2 servers with the same database.
If you wanted a backup ADSM server, think of a cluster situation.

best regards,
Rodrigo

You should not need to create any special links, and you do not
need to copy the binaries into a second location. You simply need
to set your DSMSERV_DIR environment variable, and, optionally,
the DSMSERV_CONFIG env var.

See p. 325 of the Administrator's Guide for the section entitled
"Running Multiple Servers on a Single Machine" for complete
details.
