Hello folks,

Has anyone out there tried using Sun's 'proctool' utility on a running
Solaris client?

Reason that I ask was I did. I was doing a retrieve of an archive and
watched it with proctool. Then, as an experiment, I changed the process
details to 'real time' and bound it to a single processor, (this being on
a six processor SPARCserver 1000). The previous day I had tried the same
retrieve but had run out of time. Figures are given below, (I tried to hold
everything
else as constant as possible):

Without proctool

4 hours to get 3.2GB of data

With proctool

4 hours gets 5.5GB of data (this was the retrieve complete).

Quite a difference! This might be useful to someone else, if these figures
aren't
just one-off's in my case.

Regards

Robert Cross.
