Yes the Server is smart enough,
we did switching compression ON/OFF for testing and in production with no
problems. We were alway able to restore the files, independent of the
compression settings.

I currently have compression set to choice on all my solaris and hpux
clients client v2.7. If I turn compression off (as indicated by my
latest testing) will the server or client be smart enough to turn it
back on when restoring older files? I would like to leave compress=no
now. We have enough network that it does not appear to be a problem
any longer, and the overall throughput is better.
