So the only function of dsmstat is NFS monitoring?  I have had a good deal of
trouble with it and would like to turn it off.  Has anyone else done this? Any
anomolies noted?

Sean,

'dsmstat' monitors NFS mounted filesystems to be potentially backed up.
If my customer is not going to backup NFS mounted filesystems, I
usually move it to dsmstat.old.
