Kelly,

The HELP for AUDIT VOLUME says that with a FIX=YES, ADSM is supposed to
recognize whether there is a copy pool or not.

The way I read it, if there is a copy in the copy pool, the db entries are
flagged in error, and you can still do a RESTORE vol later. If there is no
copy in a copy pool, the db entries for things ADSM can't read on the tape
are just deleted from the data base. But I've never actually tested this
myself. I just go ahead and do the RESTORE VOLUME.

In my experience, it is a lot FASTER to do the RESTORE VOL than to do the
AUDIT FIX, if the tape is in bad shape. Because if your copy pool tape is
good, ADSM just reads and copies, and you're done. For the AUDIT FIX,
depending on your tape hardware, you can spend a LOT of time (hours,
sometimes), in the hardware retry cycle- trying over and over to read the
same bad spots before both the hardware and ADSM give up on them.
