A couple of things:

Show us your include/exclude list so we can see what you're trying.  We can
better answer your question then.

Unless you specify otherwise, the directories will be backed up even if the
files are excluded.  So look at the schedlog and see if it's files or
directories you're seeing backed up.  This will only happen the first time
as directories don't change much.

Finally, let's all of us use descriptive subjects.  It makes it easier to
determine if we can help.
