Second penny:

Did you reply the request after placing the tapes into the CAP?

When you do operations like checkin, that searches i.e. the bulk, ADSM
creates a request to put the resp. tapes in (q request), and you have to
reply this request with the command reply xxx (where xxx is the request
number).

This is supposed to be the correct command, assuming all devices are
configured correctly. Another possibility is the dsmlabel command on the
AIX level:

dsmlabel -library=/dev/lb0 -drive=/dev/mt0,1030 -search -keep  -barcode

where /dev/mt0 is the first drive (i.e. DLT 7000) that has the element
address 1030 in the library.
