We had a lot of problems with our B-Drives and B-Tapes...
To make a long story short: we worked on several problem areas in parallel and
right now (knock on wood) we do not have any problems with our tapes. This is
what we did:
- have an IBM CE replace part after part of the robotics, drive heads, drive
electronics etc.
- have IBM "media service" replace approximately 20% of our tapes
- change the SCSI card (right here it was an Adaptec in a IBM PC NT box)
- update the SCSI driver
- update ADSM Server
- monitor tapes carefully (we randomly do "audit vol" on all of our tapes)
- we also added all volumes to the storage pool and don't use scratch tapes any
longer
