Hi everyone....
The thread about compression on 3590 tapes got me taking a closer look at
our tape usage....We run a 3494 with 2 3590 drives with an AIX
(4.2.1) server, 3.1.2.20, holding 1TB+ at the moment....
I noticed that we are getting anywhere from 1:1 to 2.3:1 compression
ratios, which I guess given the mix of systems we do (Novell 5, NT, AIX,
Solaris, AFS, Oracle, SAP/R3) that isn't bad. Would it be better if I
created separate tape pools for the different architectures?
One thing I did notice, however, was that some of our tapes are listed at
much less than 100% utilization, yet they are marked as full. Why would
this be? Would it be due to expired data on the tape, but not enough
expired to trigger a reclamation?
TIA.
