Hi all,

I am having a problem on a server where I'm trying to perform a selective
backup.

On this specific server, there are a few files I do not want backed up ever,
and due to some strange reason, I could not get the exclude option to work
with a scheduled incremental (run from the command line) job, so I used
Selective.

I upgraded to client 3.1.1.7 and noticed that options I included in the
backup shcedule I defined under the Administrative client (voluems) were no
longer acceptable.

I made the changes, and now I'm getting the following messages on my backup
screen (on NW) and the selective is not working :

ANS1081E Invalid search file specification '*' entered
ANS1512E Scheduled event 'SDEDOV' failed.  Return code = 4.
'Sending results for scheduled event 'SDEDOV.
'Results sent to server for scheduled event 'SDEDOV.

Under DSM.OPT for this server, I have the following EXCLUDE lines set up :

EXCLUDE          NS_IAA_SDEDOV\SYS:\QUEUES\*\*.SRV
EXCLUDE          NS_IAA_SDEDOV\SYS:\QUEUES\*\*.SYS
EXCLUDE          NS_IAA_SDEDOV\V_VOL1:\QUEUES\*\*.SRV
EXCLUDE          NS_IAA_SDEDOV\V_VOL1:\QUEUES\*\*.SYS
EXCLUDE          V_VOL1:/DATA/ACCESS/MATPA/AFTN.MDB *
EXCLUDE          V_VOL1:/DATA/ACCESS/MATPA/AFTN.LDB *
EXCLUDE .FILE    NS_IAA_SDEDOV\*:.../AFTN.MDB
EXCLUDE .FILE    NS_IAA_SDEDOV\*:.../AFTN.LDB

The last two excludes are the files I want excluded allways.

When I look in the error log on the server, I see the following regarding
the job :

ANS1081E Invalid search file specification '*' entered 22:27:12 06/16/1999
06/16/1999 22:27:12 ANS1512E Scheduled event 'SDEDOV' failed.  Return code =
4.

Which is the same as I see on the server screen.

In the log file, I get the following :

My question is simple.

Why isn't it working ? And what does the '*' it talks about refer to ?
