I want to make all RS/6000 customers aware of a vital and exceptional new
redbook on RS/6000 systems. It is "RS/6000 Systems Handbook", available
at http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/. The folks who labored on this put in an
extraordinary effort, producing a 600-page reference of great value.
ADSMers concerned with performance will appreciate these samples...
p.259 on adapter placement:
"Several PCI machines have secondary PCI buses bridged onto a primary
PCI bus. Some medium- to high-speed adapters perform slower on these
secondary bus slots...".
p.495, Adapter Placement Guide, regarding some systems:
"If a 33 MHz adapter is plugged into a 50 MHz 64-bit slot, the slot
switches to 33 MHz and also switches the remaining slots on this PCI
bus to 33 MHz."
This should be a basic reference book for anyone selecting and implementing
RS/6000 systems.
