As a general rule you should never use both client compression and hardware
compression. I have seen many installations where a client will compress
it's data, and then when the hardware tries to compress the data again, it
is expanded.
For the ADSM installs I perform, I usually enable hardware compression. Let
the hardware do the work and free up the client to merely pump out the data
as fast as it can.
