Mr. Weber, I called the 3494 Development team to check on the status of the
3494, it is Y2K ready. An IBM hardware part, feature, or field
replaceable unit, designed to be used within a machine that is Year 2000
ready, is also Year 2000 ready, provided it is used in or with that Year
2000 ready machine, and in accordance with its documentation. In the case
of a 3494, this includes all the software that shows on "syslevel" which
was shipped with the machine (as Licensed Internal Code) as well as the PC
(which is merely another part, not a separately orderable product) as long
as they are used in the manner shipped (that is, to control the 3494.)
If you need additional information, please contact your local IBM
representative.

Doing Y2K investigations I was looking at our IBM 3494's. A request of
Y2K-readyness was answered by IBM: The IBM 3494 is ready!
So for the good news. I took a look at the control unit (command "syslevel"
in
service window) of the 3494 and almost all software which is installed
there is
not Y2K-ready e.g. OS2 V2.11, DB2 V1 or DCAF 1.3. I informed IBM of that
mismatch but the guys told me that I don't have to care about the software
which is installed on the control unit that's their business.

Unfortunately I don't go on vacations at the rise of the millenium.
