Not too basic:-)
Some partial ADSM backup recovery procedure we've impemented:
1. Backup the ADSM database full or incremental.
2. In your dsmserv.opt, include the following lines:
VOLUMEHistory /usr/lpp/adsmserv/bin/vol_hist.1 <=backup of
volumes/new volumes
VOLUMEHistory /adsmdb/vol_hist.2
DEVCONFig /usr/lpp/adsmserv/bin/dev_conf.1 <=backup of your
devices
DEVCONFig /adsmdb/dev_conf.2
Backup the history and configuration files. Do this soon after your
ADSM
database backup. Customize your dsmserv.opt file for your environment
accordingly.
Backup ADSM database using the following command:
syntax: BA DB DEVclasss=classname Type=Full or Incremental
Scratch=Yes or No
ba db dev=3590dev0 t=f s=y <=this is what we use
Customize the command according to your system.
Hope that helps.

Subject: Re: Basic Question
Its not as basic of a question as you might think:
We are running an RS/6000 AIX 4.2, ADSM 3.1 with a Magstar 3570, and
maintain backups for approx 45GB. Our situation, calls for just a
backup of
the RS/6000 at this time. We determined that we would use the MKSYSB
tape to
recover our RootVg and then ADSM to recover the rest of the
filespaces.
Because we have backup storage space to spare, it was decided to have
ADSM
backup all filespaces (including the RootVg) on the RS/6000. Some
would say
there is a duplication of effort by overlaping backups of the RootVg,
but it
is much easier and quicker to restore selective files from ADSM
backups than
from the MKSYSB.
Hope that helped!

Subject: Basic Question
Sorry for the really basic question, but . . .
I have an ADSM server setup and I cannot for the life of me figure
out what
I need to backup for ADSM itself. For example, do I need to backup
all the
disk storage pools (currently 42GB), etc.? Or, do I simply backup
the
server configuration? Do I use ADSM to back itself up?
What are others doing? Any hints/help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Mahesh
