Depending upon the size of the filespaces and number of files, backing up a
client to two servers simultaneosuly will be quite a memory and resource
load on the client.

I backup a few clients with 100Gig drives. The dsmcsvc process typically
swallows more than 100Mybtes of memory when backing up. If you do have to
run two backup processes simultaneously try using the memoryefficent option.
This might help but will slow down the backup.

As a side note we also have a number of clients with 3.1.06 and SP4 . No
problems so far , although there is a know memory leak in 3.1.0.6. This
isn't new there's been memory leaks in the Win32 client since as far as I
can remember.

        Hi all,
besides thanking you all for the response, I would like to
state that
the problem that i faced was a probability and not a surety. we are
satisfied with ADSM and the support as well.

As I have said in my previous mail , we back these NT SP4 clients
(dsmc
3.1.0.6)at two different AIX based ,ADSM serversplaces
simultaneously. So as
you see the variables are probably different in my case.

BUT we are having no problems on NT with SP3. It could be just a
        coincidence.

I am trying the below options

Downgraded the client to 3.1.0.5 and changed the backup schedule
timings and
backing upto the two AIX ADSM servers individually and not
simultaneously.

I shall observe this over a period of fortnight and get back to you
all.

        Thanks

        Sri

I'd like to hear more on this since I have 3.1.0.6 client running on
30+ NT
4.0 SP3 machines and we'll have to upgrade to SP4 on all of these
due to
        comply with Y2K requirements.

If this is a known error (3.1.0.6 incompatibility with SP4) i have a
lot of
work to do! I guess my question is: Is this an isolated incident
or known
        problem?

        IBM?
