Hi Phil,
Once your have marked your lost onsite tapes as
"destroyed" then the ADSM db will automatically use the other copies
of the files that you have stored in your copy storage pools(Offsite). If your
offsite tapes have been "checked in" to a tape library and their
access changed from offsite to say; readonly then ADSM will just use
them.
So the sequence is:
Install ADSM binaries
Create Db
volumes
Put back config files (volhist etc...)
Restore ADSM db
Mark onsite volume = destroyed
Restore other lost client servers
One key point:
If you have a large number
of offsite tapes it pays to consider what tape device you will require in a DR
situation. You can, in theory use a single tape drive but ideally you would like
a library that will hold all of your current offsite tapes. Otherwise you will
have a fair amount of manual intervention required to swap tapes in/out DURING
client restores.
