Backup Exec can use ADSM as a virtual tape drive with the appropriate ADSM
option installed. However it only supports ADSM v2 not V3. It does work on
V3 but is not supported by Seagate.

You cannot use ADSM Policy Management on data backed up by Backup Exec. Only
Backup Exec can manage this data. This is one of the biggest drawbacks of
using Seagate Backup Exec with ADSM. Yuckie eh?

In my opinion the two do not integrate very well at all. You will probably
also find that Seagate's support for this option in their product is
extremely poor. Most Seagate Tech Support people don't know anything at all
about ADSM, so if you have problems you'll be very much on your own.

Backup Exec is a good stand alone solution for a few servers backing up to a
DLT tape drive, but this is as far as it goes in my opinion.

I can see where the appeal of DR comes in.. but why not just use the native
ADSM Client? We have Backup Exec installed at a few remote offices. The
network link is too slow to run backups each night, but at the weekend I use
the native ADSM BA Client to incrementally backup the data portions to our
ADSM server in the main office. Remember that the two can work in
conjunction (Backup Exec and the ADSM Client) provided ofcourse that you
don't run both backups at the same time.

        Hi all

My customer is using Seagate Backup Exec to backup several NT
servers.
They also have ADSM in many locations and are now planning to
centralize a solution based on ADSM.

I am proposing setting up their existing Seagate Backup Exec NT
servers
to send data to the central ADSM storage repository. In this way
their
existing investment in skills and resources is preserved plus they
can
make use of ADSM's policy management operations plus it can serve as
an
alternate DR site (if the clients make two copies, one local, other
to
        ADSM server)

My question is, has anyone had any similar experiences with this
integration between Backup Exec and ADSM. Is the integration smooth
in
terms of administration and setup. Does it support an ADSM server on
AIX
platform?I have tried to find documentation on the web but to no
luck so
        far

Any experiences, pitfalls or recommendations will be appreciated.

        Thanks in advance
