That would help assure that the tapes and drives get over-used and exhibit
failures - a self-fulfilling prophecy.  If that business area has so much
clout, they should be helping finance the technology to support their
desires, as in budgetary expenditure for premium tape technology like 3590
drives.  The money that it is costing your business to go through this
exercise could be put to buying the better technology.  I don't envy you
the politics you are stuck with (one reason why I got away from commercial
environments).
