***** Uhmmmm NO I DID NOT *** Move data will NOT help, the files will be rebound
and expired *****

***** No problem with the help Mihai, I don't wish the number of sleepless
nights I spent getting this stuff figured out on anyone else ;-)

***** the thing is, as far as I know it is physically impossible to have
multiple "backup" copies of the same file(s) and directory(ies) with different
retension periods ! ******

***** If you wish to do something like that you would have to do something along
the lines of having your box pretend to be two different nodes (alter the "node
blah" option) and have different domains under which each name is registered,
AND different "default" management classes within those domains... then perform
the backups using which ever node name is registered in the domain with the
management class characteristics you desire...

something more along the lines of
NODE ABC123, registered in domain "standard" and has a monday-friday nightly
incremental schedule that puts its data into the default (keeps 7 ver if data
exists, 3 if deleted, 35 days on extras and 95 on only)
then
NODE ABC123Z, registered in a domain "nolimit" and has a saturday incremental
schedule with a nolimit nolimit nolimit nolimit default management class

this is the ONLY way I know of to have the same file in the same directory have
multiple copies on the adsm server and they have different management classes
associated with them... You have to make ADSM think they are two different files
and the quick way is to make it think they are comming from different clients.

later,
     Dwight

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dwight Cook sugestion: use move data.
Dwight Cook sugestion: use move data.

Let me see if I understood well:

1. Set default management class to c3
2. Move data from tape ( no limit ) to somewhere else - another stgpool=volopt

3. Move data from volumes within volopt back to the tape storage pool.
At this time my files in the tape storage pools are bound to the mgmt c3 with
" no limit ".

After next day due to the procedure no 1 my files from the storage pool volopt
won't be
again rebound to mgmt name c1 & c2?

How can I have in the adsm database copies of the same files and directories
with different
retension settings and on different storage pools?

Thank you all for your help, especially Dwight who always had patience.

Best regards,

Mihai iancu
