How many simultaneous restore streams were you running?  As I've detailed
before in this forum, we were able to significantly improve restore
performance by running up to three streams.  We would have tried more, but
we only had three disks to restore to.

Again, planning is the key to making this work.  You need to have multiple
disk drives to restore to (the old small C and mongo D partition won't cut
it), and perhaps collocation to reduce or eliminate tape contention.

Don't write it off yet.  If you do, you have to live with the annoyances of
the other products on the off chance you will have to actually perform that
250 GB restore.
