From my experience, the minimum memory requirements for the ADSM client on
the Macintosh are severely underestimated. This is what is happening. When
you run the backup manually, you are actually using the program ADSM BACKUP,
but when you perform an automatic backup, the backup does this through the
program ADSM SCHEDULER. Both programs will need to be set to no less than
4000 under the minimum and maximum settings for the application to run
successfully. Actually, 8000 is better if you have many small files on your
system. Moreover, when I had to archive one of my external drives, I actually
had to increase the memory to 24000 to run successfully all the way through.
