Malkit,

Thanks for our response.

However, what I'm talking about are the online redo logs, not the archived logs.  The database I'm backing up is not running in archivelog mode, so there are no archivelogs to backup, and recovery is not an option.

After running "restore", the database should come back up , after a "backup offline database" .  What I'm looking for is some indication that the online redologs are being backed up  during an offline backup.  This is a requirement for offline backups.

Any ideas?

Again, thanks.

David

David,

An offline backup consisits the archived redo logs unless you choose not to backup them (using the 'archivelog=none' in the EBU script). EBU backs up the archived redo logs during both online and offline backups. EBU identifies the archive redo logs by quering the target DB  for the current LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST location specified in initSID.ora.

Did you use the recover option with the EBU script ? the recover perform a recover of the DB after the DB restore.

I have some concerns about restores using EBU from offline backups.  We're running EBU and the ADSMConnect Agent to do offline backups of an Oracle database.  In the EBU script, we're doing a "backup offline database".  However, it looks like, in the logs, that the online redologs are not being backed up.  This is obviously a requirement of performing offline backups, and I'm a little confused about this. We've done some restore testing on this.  After an offline backup, we removed both copies of the control and performed a restore and were able to bring up the database.  We then remove several database files, including the system tablespace, and performed a restore.  The database came up cleanly.  We left the database up for a while, then shut it down and ran another restore.  When we tried to start it, we got an error about one of the redologs being newer than the control file.  It appeared that EBU had not restored the online redo's.How are online redologs backed up via EBU?  This is particularly a concern if we are doing complete restores from scratch.Info:AIX v4.2Oracle v7.3.3EBU 2.2.0.5ADSMConnect Agent 2.1.0.7ADSM Server 3.1.2.0Thanks,David ____________________________________________________
