I've never seen that happen.  I always define a file for both devconfig and
volhist in dsmserv.opt, but I don't believe that the lack of that definition
would keep the backup commands from working.  I use these commands every day
on lots of systems.

Is there an entry in the activity log about the backup?

Anyone else?
