Re: Reclamation...

Amen. This would be great.
Plus, I can't seem to figure out how reclamation works. We do inventory
expiration via a scheduled event once a day. But the resulting reclamation
seems to start randomly and to go on for quite a long time. I really do not
understand how ADSM decides to reclaim a tape when.
Anybody able to help me understand that?
Thanks in advance.

|Excellent!
|
|Now I wonder if one more "option" would be useful? Would it be possible to
|limit the number of cartridges recycled?
|
|Something like;
|
|update stgpool dltpool reclaim=90 reclaim_at_most=3
|
|So that a reclaim will only do the emptiest 3 cartridges?
|
|Do people think this would be useful?
|
|I'd use this to limit the impact reclamations would have on other sessions.
|I could lower the reclaim limit in the morning, unitl the reclaim kicks off
|and then raise it again. It would then process just the 3 emptiest
|cartridges and then end so it would be more predictable as to how long it
|would take.

|We have made a recent enhancement to the reclamation volume selection
|algorithm. Reclamation will now select the volumes in a predictable order,
|emptiest to fullest. This way it will quickly reclaim those volumes first
|that
|do not contain much data. It may of course need to mount other volumes
|if files span between the volumes.
|
|This enhancement (or fix) is coming soon to to PTF near you!
