Hi,

1.I am 90% sure that this is something I am doing wrong as I read all over the
place of other peoples' success in doing exactly what I am having problems
with, however I am completely out of ideas and desperately need to get this
working in a hurry!....

I have just built a new ADSM V3.1.2 server running on AIX 4.2.1.0 (on an
RS/6000 F50) which currently only has two client machines registered to it, but
as 4 nodes - one for the BA client and the other for the Notes Connect Agent,
one client is NT4 and the other is an identical build to the server. The AIX
Notes server is 4.61d, the Connect Agent is 2.1.8 and the BA client are
3.1.20.5.

WHENEVER I perform the following procedure on the AIX client the Notes server
dies during the last load dsmnotes (the timings are shown to help illustrate
the point, I have actually reproduced this many times) :

14:30 Create any database (I used the Discussion template) and populate with a
small number of documents
14:40 Shut down notes and take a full backup of testdb.nsf with BA client - OK
14:42 Restart Notes and take full backup of test2db.nsf with agent ('load
dsmnotes incr testdb.nsf full=y' issued from remote Notes console) - OK
14:47 Add and delete some documents in testdb.nsf then take an incremental
backup with the agent ('load dsmnotes incr testdb.nsf') - OK
14:48 Close testdb.nsf and replace it with the active copy last taken with the
BA client - OK (re-opened DB and saw that my changes were no longer there)
14:49 Attempt to re-apply my changes by restoring only documents backed up
since last full backup ('load dsmnotes restore testdb.nsf -fromdate=11/10/98
-fromtime=14:46:00 -merge=y') - NOT OK, the following immediately appears in
ppears in
the Notes console :

Looking at the process table afterwards reveals the all the Notes server
processes have died but the dsmnotes is still running and showing as connected
at the ADSM server......HELP!! Unfortunately this is not something that has
only happened to me with this particular implementation, the last time I had a
play around (again using AIX for server and client) with a completely different
system and software levels it did exactly the same, hence my suspicion that
user error is most likely, but what am I doing wrong?

2.A second quick question, when I attempt to run dsmnotes on NT in the same way
as I do for AIX (ie. using my local Notes client's remote console facility with
the 'load dsmnotes' command) I get the following error :

>
> load dsmnotes incr e:\notes\data\testdb.nsf
Error attempting to load or run dsmnotes.EXE:
    Unable to invoke program
>

(I have quadruple checked the PATH and other system and Notes variables). Apart
from installing the scheduler or setting up a program in the NAB, how do I get
the Notes server itself to run dsmnotes? without that I cannot back up certain
databases that the server has a hold of....

Thanks in advance.....
