Salvatore,

Actually, yes I do have a few ideas.

1. The Microsoft Exchange Server has a bug that once a backup
has been started, if for any reason, it prematurely ends,
you cannot start another backup until the prior one "times out".
If you have the Exchange Agent GUI running, this will NEVER
time out. The command-line client is "supposed" to time out
within 4 - 10 minutes. Microsoft has acknowledged the bug.

2. The Microsoft Exchange Server has another bug that occasionally
"hangs" a backup (mostly seen on single-CPU machines).
This hang can only be fixed by terminating the
Exchange backup process (EXCDSM.EXE or EXCDSMC.EXE).
This fix is available as a hot fix from Microsoft.

For now, try the following:

1.) Stop the Exchange Agent GUI and any versions of the
EXCDSMC.EXE. You may have to use Task Manager to
stop the processes if the backup was started by
    the scheduler.

2.) Wait 10 minutes ...
The Exchange Server writes the "Start" and "Stop"
backup events to the NT Event Log. If you see the
"Start" and not the "Stop" then you have not waited
long enough. In extreme situations, you may have to
recycle the Information Store or Directory service.

3.) Retry the backup.

4.) If that doesn't work, recycle the Exchange Services
    and try again.

Here is a copy of the parts that start the Exchange Agent backup:

c:\win32app\ibm\adsm\agentexc\excdsmc /backup:dir,full
/logfile:c:\win32app\ibm\adsm\agentexc\excsfull.log > %exc_dir%\excshed.log

c:\win32app\ibm\adsm\agentexc\excdsmc /backup:is,full
/logfile:c:\win32app\ibm\adsm\agentexc\excsfull.log > %exc_dir%\excshed.log

On a `query ses' it responds that there is no other session running other than
my admin session.

Any ideas ?
