I received a message from IBM stating that Version 3, Release 1, Level 0.5
had the problem fixed.  It does not.  Here is the scenario on one of our
Novell 4.11 servers:

Cache Buffers
=============
Before load: 165,880,000   62% free
After load:  165,003,000   62% free
After backup: 148,066,000   55% free  ** allocated 17.5 Mb **
After unload: 165,728,000   62% free
After reload: 164,827,000   61% free

The version 3 client is NOT freeing up memory after a scheduled backup.  We
did not have this problem with version 2 clients.
