I've put up with similar errors for many, many months. I've never received
a suitable reply for Stk on the cause of these and similar errors, but what
I have come to believe is that it is because ADSM does a lot of start/stop
operations on a tape, and the DLT are not designed for this. Whenever the
DLT stops, it has to back up the tape a bit before moving forward to get
the tracking right. Sometimes, it seems, it doesn't get it right anyway.

This is only a guess, but it's one based on education and empirical
evidence.

I have seen many of the same tape errors, anyone know the cause?

Hi Brenda!
I have seen this too. The process will hang (cancel proc will not work)
until the tape is released. You can shorten this time by setting the
mountretention value to 2 minutes in your deviceclass.
Kindest regards,
