Yes you do have to use separate tape pools. I believe this is why, although
when working with ADSM you can never be sure. When you define a storage
pool, one of the arguments is devclass. Now it would seem that devclass
relates to a whole group of devices of a certain type, wrong. When you
define a devclass an argument is LIBRARY name. When you define a library
you relate it to a specific device file (/dev/rmt..) thus, two tape pools.

If you have the single drive models of the 3570, as we do, you will have to
do reclaims manually with "move data " calls to consolidate data of partial
tapes to the other library. Now this all pertains to V2.xx. I think I have
heard that V3.xx can reclaim to different LIBs.

I have a question of my own. When doing offsite backups, aside from backing
up storage pools, the DB, etc. you also have to backup the tape storage
pools, backing up to tape everything that's on tape. Right? That's a lot of
tape.

I would image that ADSM has been a real boon to hardware sales for IBM,
with all the tape drives, tapes and disk space this hungry monster
requires. It kind of makes you long for tar backups to 8mm's. At least I
knew what was going on, or at least slept at night thinking I knew what was
going on.

Your welcome for any confusion I've caused and the editorial comments are
