Hi Tony,
I have had the fortune\misfortune of doing full restores of several of
our NT servers using ADSM V2. I ran into some trouble at first because
the first full-fledged server loss came while we were still hammering
out our DR procedures, but we now have a very simple and reliable plan
in place. Our technician group makes whatever physical repairs are
necessary and installs NT workstation as the OS in \winntws. I then
install the ADSM client using the same node name, and restore everything
to its original location. If you go this route, there is one very
important thing to remember - ADSM backs up the registry to c:\adsm.sys,
so these files must be moved into c:\winnt35. We then modify the
boot.ini file to default to server instead of workstation, reboot, and
rejoin the domain. We have gone through this procedure more times than
I would like, and we have yet to lose anything.
If the machine is a write-off, Microsoft has an unsupported procedure
for restoring to different hardware.
Hope this is useful to you.
