Orin,
if the machine you're running on is using HPFS 386(i.e. Warp Server Advanced),
you need to use that IFS on the boot disks as well. Are these HPFS386 boot
disks?
Also - go check on http://service.boulder.ibm.com - I think there's a pretty
recent new edition of OS/2's CHKDSK (32-bit instead of 16-bit) that handles
memory/disk in a totally different manner than the "plain" CHKDSK.

Off topic, I know, but please assist.
Getting file corruption on an OS/2 HPFS drive. When I boot up with
diskettes and run checkdisk /f it says not enough space on drive to run
with /f parameter. But there's 70 MB+ free space! Do you know of a fix?
